With July 31 signaling the end of a racing season and August 1 giving birth to an eagerly awaited new crop of foals, the final week of July is often a time not only for the assessment of a yearlings suitability for the sales, but also an opportunity for those bitten by the racing & breeding bug to pause and evaluate their operations as a whole.

For Motree Thoroughbreds, this period is currently met with both pride in the results of last season and enthusiasm for the plans that have been put in place for the next.

Thanks to the efforts of our various talented trainers, we celebrated a season high tally of 39 winners including our first Group 3 winner in the John Blacker trained Launceston & Longford Cups heroine “Glass Warrior”.

Another highlight was certainly breeding the first three home in the time-honoured Summer Cup, led home by the Angela Brakey trained war horse “White Hawk”.

Importantly we also tasted multiple successes on the mainland through the deeds of Luke Oliver’s filly Spanish Tides & the Scott Brunton galloper Galenus who also took out the running of the Inaugural 3yo TASBRED Trophy.

The Leanne and Clinton Gaffney stable had a great season, combining with us for several wins through the deeds of the ever-consistent gallopers Up Wind & Artuso, whilst both Weldborough & Azara indicated bright futures when winning their respective maidens.

Meanwhile, Rowan Hamer did an amazing job in securing dual wins with enigmatic galloper Banca Nip.

The TASBRED scheme continues to be a great advertisement for the industry with each of our five TASBRED bonus winners providing season highlights, whilst in the sales ring we presented our best received draft since our inception.

It is this continued improvement in which we strive for and for this reason we are excited to announce plans are well under way for a new stable complex complete with horse walker to be built in time for this season’s sale preparations.

This will allow us to cater for our expanding band of broodmares and their offspring.

Whilst the progeny of many of our foundation mares continue to achieve results on the racetrack, we are also excited by recent acquisitions Delarosa & Euston Road who have both had foals make impressive debuts in recent weeks in Ringarosa ( a fast finishing second at Kensington) and Verbano (impressive TASBRED 2yo Hcp winner at Elwick).

These come on the back of another eye – catching debutant at Sandown in Our Heidi – a daughter of Scout Finch.

It is such additions to the team that have us spending countless hours studying pedigree matches and agonising over Stallion selection in an attempt to breed our next winner.

This is our passion and as we embark on another exciting season ahead, we look forward to sharing it with you as our valued friends and supporters.
