As the dust settles on a magical week for our Motree family and life returns to a just little more normality, it is with great pride and gratitude that we can reflect on the events of the past five days.

Between the uncertainty of our mainland friends being able to attend the sale (and in fact whether the sale would still proceed if not) and our Facebook page disappearing after being caught up in the “Facebook vs Australia” feud it has certainly been a week of organised chaos.

Thankfully everything fell into place and we can now celebrate not only a record breaking sale for Tasmania, but also our own Motree Thoroughbreds draft, which was then capped off when three Tasmanian bred horses hit the line locked together in an epic finish to Wednesday’s G3 Launceston Cup.

After finishing runner up in the Cup twice in previous years with White Yard and Banca Mo, there were a few nervous moments as the judge poured over the photo between Sh’Bourne Renegade and our very own Motree homebreds “Glass Warrior” & “White Hawk”.

When the numbers finally went up it was the John Blacker trained Glass Warrior in the frame with the Angela Brakey trained White Hawk a gallant and agonisingly close third.

It was an emotional finish in many ways with win meaning so much to a close knit ownership group led by Rob Hammond and friends, Team Blacker, and rider Siggy Carr.

For the White Hawk team it was an incredible result also, with the Angela Brakey trained 7yo joining his dam “White Yard” as a Launceston Cup place getter, adding black type in the process and vindicating the purchase of his Alpine Eagle x White Yard half sister by Matthew Brown & Red Rocket Racing at Monday’s sale for 85k.

With our “Motree” brand based on honesty and friendship, it is incredibly rewarding to be able to share success on the racetrack with our wonderful supporters, many of whom have been with us from the start of our journey into breeding just six years ago.

It is humbling to see such success generate repeat business on sale day, with Brunton & JKB racing both taking home multiple lots carrying the Motree brand alongside Siggy Carr Racing, Tanya Hanson and the aforementioned Matthew Brown/Red Rocket Racing.

We wish everyone continued racetrack success into the future and with the continued support of Magic Millions, Tasracing & Tasbreeders, along with the help of our brilliant hardworking staff pictured above we look forward to preparing another quality draft for you at the Tasmanian Magic Millions Sale in 2022.
